With September around the corner, students everywhere are gearing up for the fall semester! While going back to school is an exciting time, trying to prepare for the new year can also be very chaotic . In a previous blog, "How Smartwatches Are Helpful For Student Success" we discussed how smartwatches could help students in education. But not everyone has a smartwatch on their back-to-school list. Though most students are already equipped with smartphones, many don't know that the Apple App Store introduces 1,000 new apps per day! Not all these apps are just fun and games, some of them apps can be utilized by students to help them become more efficient this school year.

Check out the top 5 apps every student should download in preparation for going back to school:

1. Evernote

Evernote is essentially a note-taking app but it allows you to syndicate your notes to other devices. Capture everything you need to know by either typing it straight into the app or uploading a photo of your notes. You can then access it wherever you go. It’s great for students because Evernote allows you to categorize your notes by topic, search for words or phrases, and collaborate on projects with other app users. Although there is a free version, for a limited time only, Evernote is offering 75% off their premium package for eligible students - check it out!

2. EasyBib

You’ll be sold once you know it generates citations in MLA, APA & Chicago formats. Citing sources is one of the most challenging parts of completing a paper. Even more so now that there are many new resources, like podcasts, that you were never taught how to cite. EasyBib allows you to easily generate a citation from the information you input or by simply scanning the book's barcode! 3. iHomework

Meet your new best friend. iHomework lets you track all your assignments and gives you the ability to sort them in a variety of ways. But that’s not all. 4. Flashcards+ by Chegg

Your bank account will thank you for making the switch from store bought flashcards to a free app method. Flashcards+ allows you to create unique card decks for all your subjects. Studying will be easier since you will have all of your subjects' materials on your phone, on the go! You can even add images to your deck for more comprehensive studying. One reviewer exclaims, “This app is simply amazing - you will wonder how you could live without it”!

5. Brainscape

In order to avoid redundancy, this premium flashcard app made the list because of its innovation. If you like Flashcards+ and want to take studying and comprehension to another level then Brainscape is for you. It allows you to rate how well you know each concept. In doing this, Brainscape calculates the right time to quiz you again, increasing retention and helping you learn faster. Essentially the app will help you will help you focus on areas of “low confidence” maximizing your overall study time.
