Summer 2021
Dear Friends:
With June’s commencement behind us, I would like to take the time to commend our staff, students, alumni, and instructors for their dedication and spirit of community. As the pandemic took hold in 2020, GST transitioned quickly to online, live-streamed classes for all three programs.
In June, almost one hundred GST students celebrated their virtual graduation. The hard work by our GST community at all levels has had a visible result: US News & World Report has ranked us as #59 (tie) in the USA for Best Online Master's in Information Technology Program. While no surprise to us, it's rewarding for our program to be recognized with a high national ranking.
Our graduation celebration included a memorial tribute to Professor Irina Berman, Professor Al Doyle, and Instructional Technology graduate Shirley Greene. We invite you to contribute to the GST Scholarship Fund in memory of Irina, Al, or Shirley, to help our GST students and alumni who may be struggling because of the pandemic.
You can watch the listing of the graduates, the Dean’s words to the graduates, and the memorial tribute HERE. The heartwarming memorial video and the graduation video were both made by GST design students.
Workshops have gone online with our highest numbers ever of registrants and attendees in the past year, and our August 10th workshop will look at EdTech lessons that K-12 teachers can draw from this past year’s online classroom moving forward to a mixed in person and online classroom. You can click HERE to sign up for the EdTech workshop, or for this week’s WMM and MSIS workshops featuring Professor Josh Baron, Professor Bill Muskopf, and Professor Holly Owens on Accessibility in Design (July 19), Project Management Certification Exams (July 21), and the Post-Covid EdTech Classroom (August 10), respectively.
In the Fall, expect our alumni networking meeting and graduation dinner to be on campus. We will take what we learned during the pandemic, keeping most professional development workshops virtual.
New graduates are finding great jobs and launching fantastic careers. I close by inviting you to click HERE to watch Elahe Barati, a recent graduate and new UX/UI Designer at Bank of Mellon New York, talking about her love for the GST family. Thank you as always for being a part of the GST community.
With warm regards,
Dean Issac Herskowitz
