If you didn't catch our previous blog, "Improve Your Skills This Summer With Free Outdoor Classes," then you may have missed Touro’s first #TechTuesday! On July 12th, Touro GST was asked to host their first Tech Tuesday event with the Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership. The Business Improvement District holds free tech classes every Tuesday, this summer, in order to help simplify technology for you! Tech Tuesday - Launch Your Website Idea was presented by Touro GST Web Design student Renata Rocha. Rocha and other Touro elite were joined by eager individuals who wanted free advice on how to launch a website quickly and easily. If you have ever wanted to start your own business but thought web development would be too difficult, Rocha will prove you wrong!
Check out the highlights from this past Tech Tuesday hosted by Touro Graduate School of Technology:1. Idea
Whether you're a freelance service provider or an ecommerce startup, having a business plan is crucial. In addition, knowing what you will provide and other sublets of your business is essential to building your very own website. Designing a web layout from your plan will drastically cut down time and difficulty when launching your website.
2. Internet
Questions you should ask yourself are: Is my ideal URL taken? How much does it cost? Am I using the right domain extention? Furthermore, there might be a provider that can help guide you through a domain and content management system (CMS).
3. Logo
Part of your brand is having an unique, eyecatching, and memorable logo. If you aren’t efficient in graphic design then reach out to affordable design companies like fiveer.
4. Content
As discussed earlier, knowing what you want and need is half the battle i.e. Contact page, About Me page, and so on. You can use a layout site like gliffy or a simply handmade sketch will suffice. Why? Rocha says, “because when you start you are ready. Ready to go!”
5. CMS
During the class Rocha discussed the difference between different CMS sites. WordPress was the favorable option based on its user-friendly interface. In addition, Rocha discussed its “move it all” capability and “endless possibilities”. Rocha discussed the 5 basic steps to launching a site via Wordpress.
Touro Graduate School of Technology will be hosting another Tech Tuesday in August where they will discuss Coding for Everyone!
